In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. – Albert Schweitzer

WHAT DOES A JOB TRANSITION COACH DO?
A job transition coach works with an individual (client) over several one-on-one sessions to understand the client’s immediate job needs. For example, does the client feel they are in a dead-end job and need to pivot to something different or has the client been downsized with an immediate need to find a new role. The initial coaching sessions focus on the coach and client building trust and rapport while defining near-term outcomes desired, actions to be taken and challenges preventing success including a review of the client’s resume and LinkedIn profile. Subsequent sessions explore job transition tools including developing a personal marketing plan, learning proven methods for managing a job search, and leveraging networking techniques for getting introduced to key people. The job transition coach may use the coaching session to explore to leverage the client’s strengths, values, mindset and environment through reflection, dialogue, and structured exercises. The job transition coach can significantly help a client to clarify their thinking on future opportunities, shorten the overall job transition period, and provide a safe, supportive environment for discussion of frustrations, challenges, and setbacks. Typical outcomes from job transition coaching are an updated resume and LinkedIn profile, the development of a personal marketing plan and job search plan, expanded networking opportunities, and structured help throughout the process.
HOW WOULD JOB TRANSITION COACHING BENEFIT ME?
Clients benefit from improved personal well-being during the job transition period using a structured process and the help of a supportive coach. Clients further benefit by being more focused through the process and having a sounding board for issues and challenges. Other clients have found significant benefit through actively participating in a one of the Coaches’ Café job circles—a job circle is a peer community where an individual can share job challenges, seek feedback on their transition strategy and assist through advice, job leads and sharing personal experience.
HOW DOES JOB TRANSITION COACHING WORK?
Perspective clients would register for an initial exploratory call. In the call, the individual explores with a coach their current job situation and the desired outcome. From the call, the individual would be encouraged to join one of the weekly job circles and be added to the private job transition community LinkedIn group. These resources are provided at nominal cost and provide an immediate support network. After joining the job transition community, the individual could pursue networking opportunities within the community, a resume / LinkedIn profile review, or one-on-one coaching sessions. The resume / LinkedIn profile review is conducted with an experienced advisor who will provide quick fixes the client can complete on their own or more in-depth changes through a third-party. The advisor can contract for the work or provide references to other people to help with the revisions. A short series of 3-4 one-on-one coaching can be bundled with the resume / LinkedIn profile review or conducted on their own. The purpose of these coaching sessions is to help the client clarify immediate goals, actionable next steps, and options to expand job prospects. Throughout the process, the client and coach co-create how to best move forward towards the client’s desired goals through insightful dialogue and actionable next steps. At the end of the requested sessions, the client can elect to continue with a structured program or individual sessions.
